The Activity aims to promote private sector civilian ownership of the Myanmar economy by increasing the share held by responsible, accountable, and transparent firms. It engages international and domestic private sector firms and civil society actors across multiple sectors to facilitate investment, trade, and business partnerships, and to strengthen regional economic integration, and improve business accountability, transparency, and competitiveness in Myanmar.
The Consultants will assist in improving domestic corporate governance, business transparency, and competitiveness of small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) in Myanmar. Businesses need to build their capacity to improve corporate governance appropriate for their stage in growth:

The Activity aims to strengthen the business ecosystem’s capacity in Myanmar to deliver higher-quality support services needed to improve domestic corporate governance, business transparency, and competitiveness at scale, with a focus on capacity building and transitioning to more sustainable business models.
Currently, the Activity is developing a training course in SME corporate governance that covers a wide spectrum of SME corporate governance topics, which includes decision making and oversight, processes and structures, SME strategic planning and risk management, transparency and disclosure, business ethics, and other topics.

The Consultants may be contracted to perform a variety of tasks related to the Activity’s SME corporate governance training that further leverage on the Activity’s course content and responds to stakeholders’ needs, which may include but not limited to the following tasks:

  • Provide either remote or in-country training to business service organizations (e.g., law firms, accountants, etc.) in Myanmar so that they may directly assist individual SMEs to implement the course’s concepts.
  • Provide either remote or in-country training to one or two Myanmar SMEs to facilitate their implementation of the course’s concepts.
  • Identify and possibly develop new SME corporate governance course content based on stakeholder feedback.
  • Create or revise any standardized forms (e.g., meeting minutes, board resolutions, etc.) related to the implementation of any of the SME corporate governance modules based on stakeholder feedback.
