Background

The Africa Leadership Training and Capacity-Building program (Africa Lead II) is a component of the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Global Hunger and Food Security Initiative. The purpose of the program is to support and advance agricultural transformation in Africa as proposed by the African Union Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP). Our interventions support change in individual leadership behavior, in institutional performance and in the policy process, especially including supporting increased injection of evidence into policy debate and decision-making, and in strengthening engagement of civil society. In particular, Africa Lead advances four core elements of policy systems change: evidence-based planning, mutual accountability, coordination and inclusiveness, and policy plans and institutional capacity.

Under the Feed the Future (FTF) program, USAID/West Africa aims to enhance the capacity of its development partners in West Africa. Over the past 5 years, Africa Lead has supported key regional organizations in West Africa such as ECOWAS, CILSS and CORAF/WECARD under the USAID West Africa portfolio to strengthen their organizational capacity and performance.

Africa Lead is seeking capable and experienced trainers (English and French speaking) to design training manuals and modules to facilitate a Project Management short course tailored to the development sector and the performance requirements, and needs of the target institutions.

This course will cover the definition of the scope of work, business requirements and project deliverables; Identification of work required to achieve project deliverables; preparation of project timeline, project milestones and deliverables; Identification of resources required to achieve project deliverables; track project progress and report project status; plan and manage project resources; plan and manage project risks and issues; plan and manage changes to project scope, timeline and resources; have practiced facilitating organizational learning for better results.

Responsibilities:

· Finalize a participant manual based on the training module.

· Develop a pre-test and post-training questionnaire for the participants in collaboration with AL.

· Deliver the 5-day training to selected participants of the institutions and provide specific practical and group-work tasks for the participants to apply the concepts.

· Draft an activity report based on the training

Required Experience and technical knowledge:

· Master’s degree or international equivalent in requested area of interest

· Extensive experience in development and review of publications

· 8+ years’ experience of designing and delivering training courses;

· Possess good presentation skills, writing skills, training management, coaching leadership and computer skills

· Possess the ability to understand complex information and communicate the information to people with diverse professional backgrounds
