NIWETU Overview:
NIWETU is a USAID-funded four-year project (August 2016 through August 2020) with a goal to reduce violent extremism (VE) among at-risk individuals and communities in Kenya. NIWETU aims to strengthen Kenyan communities’ and government institutions’ motivation and capacity to take the lead on countering violent extremism (CVE) by building the capacity of and fostering strong relationships among individuals, communities, and civil society (Objective 1) and county and national government actors (Objective 2). NIWETU supports CVE activities in Garissa, Isiolo, Nairobi and Wajir counties.
Responsibilities for Communications Officer:
Communications management and strategic planning
- Design, develop, and manage communications
- Compile and edit bi-weekly, quarterly and annual reports on the activity’s progress and impact
- Oversee collection of anecdotal information and other evidence of progress and achievement.
- Use information in Technical Administrative Management Information System (TAMIS) and Monitoring and Evaluation/Learning (MEL) reports to compile quick results on program status and impact for reporting purposes
- Develop content for public information products including fact sheet, press releases, media advisories, PowerPoint presentations and success stories
- Review public-facing communication documents/publications to ensure quality control and consistent messaging
- Report program status and impact to various audiences and through a variety of formats
- Provide timely reports and feedback on deliverables as required
- Train staff and partners on NIWETU branding and marking plan, and photography requirements
- Supports partners’ communication needs and events coverage
- Draft and edit content for Facebook and Twitter
- Support the overall development of the quarterly and annual work-plan and compile all collateral materials to support the work-plan
Qualifications:
Required
- University degree in Communication, International Development or any other relevant field; a Masters Degree will be an added advantage
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated report writing skills and development of success stories
- Minimum five years’ experience in supporting communications for complex development activities in conflict-affected regions with at least two-years’ experience in public and media relations. Experience with communications on/for USAID funded projects in Kenya, will be an added advantage
- Experience with grants and/or small grants under contract programs; experience in supporting CVE activities will be an added advantage.
- Experience in training others not required but a plus
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili
The successful candidate will report to the ME/L Manager.
