Finance Assistant

Background: DAI is an international consulting firm headquartered in the United States with branch offices in Mozambique. DAI is accepting CVs from candidates for a Finance Assistant for the USAID Office of Transitions Initiatives (OTI)-funded Mozambique program.

Position: The Finance Assistant will provide assistance to program finance activities, tax clearance & bank correspondence files. The position will ensure that the outlined financial policies and procedures are implemented and followed in the assigned area and will provide support in other finance areas as necessary. This position reports to the Finance Manager and is based in Maputo, Mozambique. This is a local hire position and applicants must have the legal right to work in Mozambique.

Responsibilities: The Finance Assistant will:

General

Monitor the project accounts balances, prepares and submits the inbound wire requests. Conducts accurate and timely processing of invoices, advances/settlements, payroll and tax remittance payments and recording in DAI accounting system. Responsible for safeness of bank checks, and cash receipts. Responsible for timely preparing and submitting the financial reports for both DAI and the Mozambican tax authorities. Prepares and submits the Maputo-based project accounts reconciliations. Verifies the completeness of the expense back up documentation, prior to processing the payment. Responsible for timely electronic archiving of the expense vouchers.

Travel Advances & Reimbursements

Follows and maintains procedures to ensure accurate and timely payment of travel advances/settlements for staff and partner travel.

Payroll

Ensures the timely and accurate processing of all payroll transactions, assuring compliance with established employment agreements and modifications as well as the Tax Code of Malaysia. Responsible for timely remittance of taxes.

Financial Systems

Records transactions in project accounting system, uploads backup documentation into DAI cloud-based system. Effectively use DAI’s project management system (TAMIS) for following up the procurement approvals and being able to timely process the payments as well as plan upcoming cash needs.

Qualifications:

  • B.A. Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent.

  • 1+ years of relevant experience and progressive responsibility in finance and accounting, office administration, project operations at the mid-level of an organization.

  • Experience with enterprise accounting software, and Microsoft office suite.

  • Experience with grants or small grants under contract programs highly preferred.

  • An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and appropriate professional image.

  • An extremely well organized and self-directed individual with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and strong operational focus.

  • Proficiency in one or more of the local languages of Cabo Delgado, such as Mwani, Makua, Makonde, or Swahili is desired.

  • Language skills in English and Portuguese is required.
