The Kenya Integrated Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (KIWASH) Project is a five-year, USAID-funded project to improve lives and health through the development and management of sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene services in Kenya. Its purpose is to institutionalize catalytic models of sustainable service delivery for accelerated water and sanitation access in nine specific target counties and to improve complementary hygiene behaviors.

Summary of Primary Duties

The GIS Manager will develop and maintain KIWASH systems and processes for spatial planning, GIS data collection, and digital mapping. He or she will collaborate with the technical, M&E, and communications teams to support the production of maps for technical work as well as program communications and contribute to KIWASH reporting. He or she will provide GIS training to KIWASH staff and partners.

Essential Duties

· Develop and maintain KIWASH systems for spatial planning, GIS data collection, and mapping; · Provide technical support for the production of maps and other graphics for technical work and program communications;

· Provide GIS training to KIWASH staff and partners;

· Contribute to regular KIWASH reports (monthly, quarterly, annual) and specialized reports;

· Produce timely and accurate maps for program activities as well as provide capacity-building in spatial planning and GIS for other staff and stakeholders;

· Provide on-going advisory services to project partners and stakeholders on how to use and integrate spatial planning and GIS techniques effectively in water and sanitation programming;

· Support KIWASH Water/Sanitation Advisor with GIS/mapping information, tools, and partner training with direct aim to increase access to safe WASH services;

· Support KIWASH grantees and subcontracts with spatial planning and GIS expertise;

· Other tasks as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

· No supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

· A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in fields related to the successful design and implementation of information technology systems and utilization of GIS.

· Evidence of strong communication skills, both interpersonal and written.

· Advanced degree in a related field of study preferred, e.g. information technology, GIS, urban planning, public health, governance, etc.

· Proven experience in training on GIS.

· Knowledge of Kenyan water supply and sanitation issues preferred.

Base of Operations

· Nairobi, Kenya with frequent travel to Kisumu and occasional travel to nine target counties.

Reporting

· The GIS Specialist will report to the Water/Sanitation Advisor.
