Project Background:
The Liberia Accountability and Voice Initiative (LAVI) Project is a five-year, USAID-funded project to strengthen multi-stakeholder partnerships to advocate for and monitor policy and accountability reforms. It aims to increase the influence of citizens and media in the governance of public goods and services, as well as to create more effective, accountable, and inclusive governance in Liberia.
role’s Purpose:
LAVI’s increasing portfolio of initiatives requires better information outreach to interested US government, development community, civil society, and private sector stakeholders. Success stories and program reports, if disseminated properly, can help increase the visibility of the LAVI program and garner goodwill amongst program constituents.
The Project Outreach Associate will work closely with the LAVI Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning team as well as the technical teams to support drafting and editing programmatic reports, weekly and quarterly reports, success stories, snapshots, press releases, community outreach materials, and other project deliverables. Project Outreach Associate will also provide training to local staff in writing, photography and other professional skills. The Project Outreach Associate will identify and capture impact stories, and prepare and package all LAVI publications, including knowledge management products, reports, and audio and visual communications material.
Overall responsibilities:
§ Support the Communications and Outreach Specialist in drafting, editing, and proofreading technical documents, weekly and quarterly reports, success stories, and other reports and materials to the level of native English-speakers
§ Ensure that all LAVI/DAI documents meet publication quality standards under the advisement of the Communications and Outreach Specialist
§ Mentor, coach, and guide the LAVI ME&L, grants, program, and management teams on improved reporting and presentation of program successes.
§ Support the Communications team in an effort to increase public information about LAVI activities, including outreach to government and community.
§ Support the ME&L team in preparing and packing knowledge management products that will emanate from knowledge sharing events including activities involving LAVI’s Community of Practice
tasks:
§ Support the LAVI/DAI grants, communications, ME&L, program, and management teams on improved reporting and presentation of program successes
§ Support the Communications Outreach Specialist in the production of communications materials, including success stories, one-pagers, posters, and other communications outreach materials, and facilitate their strategic distribution
§ Assist in increasing public information about LAVI activities, including outreach to government and community.
§ Support the communications team to increase access to and exchange of information on community concerns, and areas in need of improvement on project activities
§ Train LAVI staff on improved writing skills and computer skills.
§ Assist in the production of all required program reports for USAID including weekly updates, quarterly reports, annual reports, and other documents as needed
§ Create and manage LAVI’s photography archives
§ Liaise regularly with LAVI information officers and technical staff to stay up-to-date on program activities, upcoming events, and program successes, keeping the communications team advised of any relevant activities, events, and successes.
§ Organize minutes at the senior management meetings, staff meetings, and client meetings.
§ Support the capacity development team in drafting and reviewing programmatic reports.
§ Perform other duties as required
Products and Deliverables:
§ Weekly reports
§ 2 quarterly reports due July 2016 and December 2016
§ Minimum of 2 success stories per month
§ Communications material including success stories, one-pagers, posters, and other communications outreach material, and facilitate their strategic distribution, in collaboration with LAVI/DAI personnel
§ PowerPoint presentation to showcase LAVI activities
§ At least one training to LAVI staff from DAI on improved writing skills
§ Develop a short guide on how to write snapshots and take photographs
§ Technical reports as required.
Qualifications:
§ A bachelor’s degree in journalism, political science, international development, or other related social sciences field;
§ Native oral and written English language skills;
§ Photography and graphic design skills preferred;
§ Experience in writing and designing brochures, success stories, technical reports, and promotional material;
§ Demonstrated cross-cultural communications ability
Reporting: Reports to ME&L Director
This is a Monrovia, Liberia based position.
This position offers airfare and a monthly stipend.
