Activity Background

The USAID Responsible Investment and Trade Activity is a five-year (2020 – 2025) activity that will work with a broad range of international and domestic private sector firms and civil society actors to promote civilian ownership of the Myanmar economy by increasing the share held by responsible, accountable, and transparent firms. Through the Activity, USAID will increase trade and private sector investment. To attract and sustain investment and trade, the Activity is supporting firms operating in or entering the market in Myanmar to improve corporate governance, business transparency, and competitiveness.

Description:
DAI seeks a Solar Energy Quote Best Practices Training Consultant with experience in the Myanmar Solar Energy sector to support its USAID Responsible Investment and Trade Activity (the Activity) in Myanmar. The Activity aims to promote private sector civilian ownership of the Myanmar economy by increasing the share held by responsible, accountable, and transparent firms. It engages international and domestic private sector firms and civil society actors across multiple sectors to facilitate investment, trade, and business partnerships, and to strengthen regional economic integration, and improve business accountability, transparency, and competitiveness in Myanmar.
In order to contribute to responsible investment and trade in Myanmar, the Activity is looking to promote the understanding of and demand for high-quality solar energy quotes and proposals that adhere to international best practices and standards. The Activity’s Solar Energy Quote Best Practices training aims to build the capacity of Myanmar’s solar energy companies, as it realizes the importance of high-quality quotes and proposals in providing potential customers with sufficient information to make informed purchase decisions in solar energy solutions. The training also seeks to support companies in the solar energy sector to increase sales and access trade opportunities in Myanmar, as well as with international buyers. The training will be delivered online through live sessions.

The Consultant will perform a variety of tasks related to the Activity’s Solar Energy Quote Best Practices training, which may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Review and proof the quote template, guide, course syllabus, and PowerPoint presentations: The quote template, guide, course syllabus, and PowerPoint presentations are being developed in English by a subject matter expert and may be translated into the Myanmar language by a professional translator. The Consultant will review and make revisions to the English and Burmese language materials, PowerPoint slides, script, and other text in order to ensure understanding of the course’s primary objectives and accuracy of language for technical terminology and concepts.
  • Deliver and support the Solar Energy Quote Best Practices training workshops: The Consultant will provide narration in Burmese in a high-quality, professional manner with a PowerPoint based on a predetermined script. The Consultant will also monitor and compile notes on questions and discussions and provide guidance to participants during the delivery of the training workshops.
  • Reporting: Assist the subject matter expert in producing a summary report of the training, including list of participants, participant feedback, and recommendations on how to improve the training in any subsequent delivery.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Economics, Business, Accounting, Law or a related field or relevant experience; Advanced degree in business or economics is desirable
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Myanmar off-grid solar energy sector
  • Experience demonstrating the ability to be an effective training instructor
  • Private sector experience, especially in the Myanmar off-grid solar energy sector
  • Microsoft Office Suite capabilities, particularly PowerPoint
  • Fluency in Burmese and English
