Responding to the needs of our growing business, alongside our desire to develop future talent, DAI is offering three 12-month placement roles as part of our 2018/19 programme. The 12-month placements will be spent in either our Business Development (BDU) or Project Management (PMU) departments and, if successful, there may be the opportunity for employment in a permanent role at the conclusion of your degree.

These internships will start in September 2018, for a duration of 12 months.

DAI offers a salary, commensurate with an internship role, of £14,600 pa. The positions will be based in DAI’s spacious, custom-designed offices in Apsley, 30 minutes out of London Euston – with excellent rail and motorway links to London and the region.

Main purpose of role: To spend 12 months with either the Business Development Unit or Project Management Unit and to work as part of the team to, either a) support the bidding process, or b) provide support to one or more projects – whilst gaining insight and practical experience in the international development sector.

Key tasks, duties and responsibilities:

Business Development Interns:

  • Two months spent with DFID or EC project recruitment teams to support the staffing process for bid pre-positioning and live bids
  • Work with a bid manager to support the submission of at least two competitive tenders that are scheduled for release and submission during the 12-month period, with a particular focus on:

    • Preparation of financial information; working closely with the pricing analysts to support the development of financial proposals
    • Co-ordination with potential partners
    • Preparatory research (collating relevant documentation, examples of similar work elsewhere)
    • Working closely with bid manager/director to support the development of the technical approach to a particular programme
  • Preparation of one or more Expressions of Interest/PQQs

  • Work to support at least two EC or two DFID bids

Project Management Intern:

  • Support a Project Manager role on one or more well-established or new projects
  • Support the Quality Assurance Section (QAS) with the project support platform and the administration of the department, including:
    • Updating risk registers and issue logs
    • Promoting Quality Management System compliance
    • Developing contract amendments, PO amendments, and supplier on-boarding
  • Work with the QAS to develop at least one new support tool or system
  • Shadow and assist the PMU Coordinators in providing general administrative support to the Project Managers

You will work to structured goals and will, with your line manager, review the success of your contribution to determine whether there is a mutual fit for a permanent role at the end of your placement

About you

  • You should be seeking a year’s placement part-way through a 3-4 year first degree in a relevant discipline e.g. international development; business; management or similar discipline
  • Demonstrable understanding of and interest in international development and working in an international/multi-cultural environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Pro-active, assertive and action-oriented with strong intellectual ability and agility
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to tight deadlines
  • An ability to speak a second European language would be a useful attribute
