Ethiopia: Team Leader, Ethiopia Dairy Development Activity

Objectives of the role:

The Team Leader will be responsible for the design and implementation of an exciting new initiative to support the development of a commercially sustainable small-holder dairy sector in Ethiopia. Working in partnership with the Ethiopian government and other international organisations involved in dairy development in Ethiopia, the Team Leader will manage a small team of consultants to build the capacity of local farmers to join a commercial supply chain.

Length of the project:It is anticipated that the activity will consist of two separate phases: Phase One is to investigate which areas of the dairy industry require support and propose interventions for investment not currently being addressed by other actors.This will result in a five-year activity design document that will form the basis for Phase Two of the programme.

Location:Addis Ababa

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Tertiary degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. agribusiness, dairy science and technology, value chain management)
  • Understanding and experience in the development of commercial dairy sectors, particularly in developing country contexts
  • Experience in the design and implementation of agriculture development activities in Africa, and ideally in Ethiopia
  • Strong project management experience, including managing multiple stakeholders
  • Experience consulting, engaging and collaborating with governments, NGOs, the private sector, project beneficiaries and other stakeholders, and ability to establish credibility rapidly
  • Particular specialism in results-based management (particularly in the use of Results Frameworks or Log Frames), monitoring and evaluation, and reporting to donors
  • Ability to draw on New Zealand dairy expertise and connections to relevant New Zealand organisations
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills
